05/05/2024. A drake Garganey on the Scrape at St Ouen's Pond. MD
Showers this morning, but a sunny afternoon with light south-easterly winds.
There was some seabird movement at La Corbiere early this morning including 5 Common Scoters, 2 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Fulmars, 42 Gannets, 4 Common Terns, 11 Kittiwakes, 19 Lesser black-backed Gulls, 35 Great black-backed Gulls, 4 Guillemots also seen a Purple Sandpiper and 5 Swallows. Round the corner at Petit Port 2 Brent Geese and a pair of Shelduck.
At St Ouen's Pond Scrape a drake Garganey, a drake Shelduck, 1 Greenshank, a Redshank, Lapwings with 2 young and a single Yellow Wagtail. 3 Swifts were over Plemont, a White Wagtail was on the Farmers Cricket Pitch at St Martin and a Firecrest was singing in Valley des Vaux. Sparrowhawks were seen at Green Island and at Bel Royal.
At La Sente a single Brent Goose, a Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Greenshanks, a Redshank, 12 Swallows, 3 Sand Martins and 5 White Wagtails.
07.03.2026 Mediterranean Gulls are starting to get a bit thin on the ground now as most are already back on their breeding grounds throughout Europe MD Seen at Petit Port this morning were 17 Mediterranean Gull and 6 Brent Geese while nearby at Ouaisne were 2 Little Grebe , 3 Snipe , 15 Chiffchaff , 2 Firecrest , a Goldcrest and a Siskin . At St Aubin were 33 Pale-bellied Brent Geese , 14 Redshank and 10 Turnstone while 130 Brent Geese were by the Gunsite. Around La Sente were 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , the Wigeon , 24 Cattle Egret , 19 Little Egret , 3 Mediterranean Gull , 65 Black-headed Gull , a Lesser Black-backed Gull , 6 Greenshank , 52 Redshank and 36 Pied Wagtail . 6 Brent Geese were in Rozel Harbour.
06.03.2026 A flock of Pale-bellied Brent Geese at St Aubins recently MD Seen at La Sente this morning were 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , the Wigeon , 3 Greenshank , 18 Redshank , 2 Little Egret and 8 Pied Wagtail . 31 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were at St Aubin while at Beaumont Marsh were 350 Brent Geese , a Curlew and 3 Pied Wagtail . In the Sandpits were 28 Tufted Duck , a Little Grebe , 2 Stonechat and a Cetti's Warbler and at St Ouen's Pond were 42 Shoveler , 11 Teal , a Pochard , 14 Tufted Duck , 5 Lapwing and a Sparrowhawk . On Mont Matthieu were a Cetti's Warbler and a Tufted Duck . Roosting at Petit Port were 17 Mediterranean Gull . Yesterday a Wheatear was seen on the north side of St Ouen's Pond.
05.03.2026 At least one male Black Redstart is still residing at La Rocque RdC Seen in Grouville Bay on the falling tide were 3 Knot , a Bar-tailed Godwit , 214 Grey Plover , 448 Sanderling , 342 Dunlin , 7 Greenshank , 3 Redshank , 46 Oystercatcher , 6 Curlew and 410 Brent Geese with a Great Northern Diver , 2 Black-necked Grebe , 8 Red-breasted Merganser and a Black Redstart at La Rocque. Nearby at la Sente were 56 Redshank , 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , the Wigeon , 2 Common Gull , a Lesser Black-backed Gull , 11 Little Egret and 5 Cattle Egret . At Queens Valley were a Kingfisher , 3 Siskin , 10 Chiffchaff , 2 Teal and a Water Rail while in Vallee des Vaux were 4 Woodcock , a Brambling and 2 Blackcap . Along Rue du Moulin de Bas were 2 Fieldfare , a Redwing , 2 Chiffchaff and 2 Water Rail while a pale Buzzard was at Haute Croix and 4 Chiffchaff at Grands Vaux. Around St Ouen's Pond were 150 Brent Geese , 28 Teal , 23 Shoveler , a Pochard , 4 Lapwing , 2 Oystercatcher , 3 Snipe and a Sparrowhawk while in the Sandpits were 2 Little Grebe and 4 Mediterranean Gull with 6 more on the beach. Beaumont Marsh held 300 Brent Geese , a Lesser Black-backed Gull , a Little Egret and a Grey Heron .
04.03.2026 This evenings Little Bunting , caught and ringed at Grouville Marsh, the first since 2024. Thanks to Dave Buxton for the photo. At La Sente this morning were 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , the Wigeon , 17 Little Egret , 14 Cattle Egret , 68 Redshank , 7 Greenshank , a Snipe and 11 Pied Wagtail while at 32 Cattle Egret were along La Rue des Fonds and at Grands Vaux were 13 Black-headed Gull , 2 Raven and 4 Chiffchaff . Around St Ouen's Pond were the White-fronted Goose , 95 Brent Geese , 21 Teal , 28 Shoveler , 9 Tufted Duck , a Pochard , a Snipe , 7 Lapwing , a Little Grebe , a Water Rail and 3 Grey Heron while at Kempt Tower were 4 Little Grebe , a Shoveler and a Water Rail . On the Ecrehous were a Purple Sandpiper , 2 Ringed Plover , 111 Grey Plover and 8 Brent Geese . A Black Redstart was at La Rocque and 21 Redshank , a Turnstone and 26 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were at St Aubin. Up at Crabbe were a Peregrine , a Marsh Harrier , 12 Meadow Pipit , a Pied Wagtail , 3 Song Thrush and 3 Chiffchaff. Elsewhere, 2 Dartford Warbler and 4 Stonechat were at Noirmont, 4 Stonechat , 3 Greenfinch , and 2 Raven were at Beauport, a Stonechat was at Sorel and a Dartford Warbler was at Corbiere.
03.03.2026 The long-staying Russian White-fronted Goose at St Ouen's Pond on Sunday RdC Seen at Petit Port were 18 Mediterranean Gull , 6 Little Egret were at La Pulente and 14 Buzzards , including 2 Pale birds were over St Brelades Bay. Around St Ouen's Pond were 34 Shoveler , 2 Pochard , 4 Tufted Duck , 6 Teal , a Little Grebe , 4 Lapwing , a Water Rail , 2 Chiffchaff , a pair of Stonechat and 2 Chough with a Ringed Plovers on Sands slip. On the Minquiers were 4 Sand Martin , 3 Chiffchaff , a Stonechat and a Wren while on the Ecrehous were 200 Turnstone , 5 Grey Plover , 4 Redshank , a Kestrel and a Carrion Crow . At La Sente were 2 Shoveler , the Wigeon , 2 Shelduck , 33 Cattle Egret , 6 Little Egret , 2 Greenshank and a Snipe . In the Jersey Cider Orchard were 4 Fieldfare , 3 Redwing , 2 Song Thrush and 2 Chiffchaff . 2 Cattle Egret were near Catherine Best and 18 Meadow Pipit flew over Sorel. Yesterday evening, 270 Alba Wagtail were roosting at the Marina.
02.03.2026 The first Wheatear of the spring was seen this morning at St Ouen's Pond, thanks to Tony Paintin for the photo. Also seen around St Ouen's Pond were 43 Shoveler , 6 Tufted Duck , 2 Pochard , 4 Teal, 4 Lapwing and 2 Stonechat with a second Wheatear on the Scrape. A Sparrowhawk was seen on Mont Matthieu, a Peregrine , 2 Raven and a Stonechat were at Corbiere and at Ouaisne were 6 Snipe , 2 Chiffchaff and a Sparrowhawk . Seen at La Rocque were a Knot , 220 Grey Plover , 60 Dunlin , 120 Sanderling , 18 Curlew , 8 Ringed Plover , 6 Little Egret , 4 Great Crested Grebe and 2 Red-breasted Merganser while at La Sente were 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , a Wigeon , 64 Redshank , 7 Greenshank , 18 Little Egret , 14 Cattle Egret and 17 Pied Wagtail . At Beaumont Marsh were 300 Brent Geese , a Marsh Harrier and 2 Snipe . Up at Plemont were 23 Pied Wagtail , 8 White Wagtail , 32 Meadow Pipit , 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull , a Peregrine and a Peacock Butterfly while at Les Landes were 5 pairs of Stonechat and at Crabbe was a Skylark . At Petit Port were 49 Turnstone , 3 Purple Sandpiper , 9 Grey Plover , a Common Gull and 3 Mediterranean Gull . The Kingfisher was seen again at Queen's Valley.
01.03.2026 A Little Egret performing a fly past recently MD Seen around St Ouen's Pond this morning were the long-staying White-fronted Goose , 41 Shoveler , 14 Teal , 5 Tufted Duck , a Pochard , 3 Lapwing , 2 Snipe and 55 Brent Geese while at Petit Port were 42 Turnstone , 12 Grey Plover , a Purple Sandpiper , 13 Curlew and a Red-breasted Merganser . At Le Pulec were a pair of Shelduck and 9 Little Egret . 4 Cattle Egret were seen near St Ouen's Village and on the Airport football pitch were 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 4 Mediterranean Gull . At Beaumont Marsh were 400 Brent Geese , 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull , 3 Little Egret , 18 Pied Wagtail , 60 Meadow Pipit and 3 Chough while 25 Redshank and 4 Turnstone were at St Aubins. Out east at La Sente were 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , the Wigeon , 24 Cattle Egret , 2 Grey Heron , 110 Black-headed Gull , 2 Mediterranean Gull , 2 Common Gull , 67 Redshank and 7 Greenshank . Great Crested Grebe numbers are up to 16 in St Catherine's Bay. In Trinity Orchard were 2 Redwing , 4 Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrest , 2 more Redwing and 2 Firecrest were at Handois, 6 Woodcock were in Vallee des Vaux and at Grands Vaux were 6 Chiffchaff .
28.02.2026 An adult and juvenile Brent Geese , taking off from St Ouen's Pond MD Seen at St Ouen's Pond this morning were 140 Brent Geese , 23 Shoveler , 3 Pochard and 3 Snipe . Roosting at Petit Port were 3 Purple Sandpiper , 12 Curlew , 18 Turnstone , 8 Grey Plover and 4 Brent Geese and up at Gorselands were 4 Dartford Warbler . At La Sente were 5 Greenshank , 55 Redshank , 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , a Wigeon , 24 Cattle Egret , 18 Little Egret , 104 Black-headed Gull , 3 Mediterranean Gull , 36 Pied Wagtail , a White Wagtail and a Cetti's Warbler while at La Rocque this evening were a Knot , 460 Dunlin , 45 Sanderling , 144 Grey Plover , 19 Ringed Plover , 2 Greenshank , 19 Redshank , 6 Curlew and a Great Northern Diver . Beaumont Marsh held 150 Brent Geese and 2 Little Egret . In St Catherine's Bay were 2 Common Gull , 2 Mediterranean Gull , 80 Black-headed Gull and 5 Brent Geese while in the nearby woods were 4 Great Spotted Woodpecker , a Firecrest , 3 Moorhen and a Buzzard . 6 Fulmar and a Dartford Warbler were near Bouley Bay. At Queen's Valley were 3 Redwing , 2 Siskin , 5 Firecrest , a Goldcrest , 10 Chiffchaff , a Blackcap , 9 Tufted Duck , 90 Black-headed Gull and a Grey Wagtail while 6 Chiffchaff were at Grands Vaux Reservoir. In Vallee des Vaux were 2 Siskin , 2 Blackcap , a Firecrest , a Goldcrest and a Chiffchaff .
27.02.2026 A recent Goldcrest at Pont Marquet, taken by Mick. Passing Corbiere this morning were a Red-throated Diver , 12 Razorbill , 6 Guillemot , 5 Gannet , 31 Shag , 2 Cormorant , 2 Brent Geese , 58 Great Black-backed Gull , 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull , a Mediterranean Gull and 7 Purple Sandpiper while nearby in Petit Port were 2 Shelduck , 14 Brent Geese , 5 Purple Sandpiper , 36 Turnstone , 13 Grey Plover and 7 Curlew . Seen at St Ouens Pond were 20 Shoveler , 4 Tufted Duck , 3 Pochard , 4 Lapwing , 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull , 84 Stock Dove and a Stonechat while on the Scrape were 180 Brent Geese , 2 Shelduck , 5 Wigeon , 21 Teal and a Chiffchaff . At La Sente were 2 Shelduck , 2 Shoveler , the female Wigeon , 66 Cattle Egret , 8 Little Egret , 41 Redshank , a Snipe , 15 Black-headed Gull , a Common Gull , 19 Pied Wagtail and 4 Redwing while the Kingfisher was again at Queens Valley. 21 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were in St Brelades Bay with another 29 at St Aubins. Beaumont Marsh held 330 Brent Geese , 4 Little Egret , a Curlew , 9 Pied Wagtail and Grey Wagtail , 17 Cattle Egret were at Cowley Farm and 8 Great Crested Grebe were at St Catherine's. 75 Chaffinch , 30 Linnet , 40 Stock Dove and 2 Raven were along Rue des Ifs, 17 Fieldfare , 3 Redwing , a Firecrest and a singing Chiffchaff were on Rue du Moulin de Bas, 2 Redwing , 4 Chiffchaff and a Goldcrest were in the Jersey Cider Orchard and in Vallee des Vaux were 2 Siskin and a Firecrest . 272 Pied Wagtail were roosting in the Marina.
26.02.2026 Male Stonechat in front of the Wetland Centre this morning. MD A cloudy morning and a clear afternoon, mild at 14c in a fresh southerly wind. 5 Sand Martins were feeding at St Ouen's Pond this morning, an exceptionally early date for the species. On the Pond were 22 Shoveler , 2 Pochard , 4 Tufted Duck , 5 Wigeon , 5 Teal , 38 Brent Geese , 2 Oystercatchers , 4 Lapwings , 3 Snipe , 2 Grey Herons , a Water Pipit and a Stonechat . A Bittern was seen yesterday on the Scrape, and 190 Brent Geese were feeding there today. A male Gadwall was in a field at the bottom of Jubilee Hill while on Mont Matthieu were 6 Shovelers , 3 Marsh Harriers , a pale-phase Buzzard and 13 Ravens . 3 Ringed Plovers were near Sands. Early this evening, another 2 Sand Martins were seen in the Sandpits and 2 Shelduck were on the Scrape. In the Sandpits were a pair of Shelduck , 31 Tufted Ducks , 3 Little Grebes , 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Chiffchaff , a Cetti's Warbler , 2 White Wagtails , 3 Pied Wagtails , a Stonechat and 2 Choughs and both Skylark and Meadow Pipi t were singing at Le Braye, with another Skylark in song flight north of St Ouen's Pond too. Just a few birds were seen passing Grosnez first thing, which included 5 Razorbills , 28 Fulmars , 19 Gannets , 3 Cormorants , 12 Shags , 13 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 7 Great Black-backed Gulls . 80 Herring Gulls and a Peregrine . 2 Marsh Harriers were hunting at the Racecourse. In Beaumont Marsh were 420 Brent Geese and 4 Little Egrets and at St Aubin were 30 pale-bellied Brent Geese . By the pier in St Brelade's Bay were 21 pale-bellied Brent Geese and on Ouaisne Common were 2 Teal , 2 Snipe , 3 Redwings and 3 Chiffchaffs . 2 Shelduck were on the beach in Petit Port. At La Rocque were 3 Great Northern Divers , a Black-necked Grebe and 17 Ringed Plovers and in La Sente were 240 Brent Geese, 16 Cattle Egrets , 37 Little Egrets, 11 Grey Herons , 8 Common Gulls , 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 7 Greenshanks , 77 Redshanks , 2 Shoveler , a Wigeon and 2 Shelduck . Another 60 Cattle Egrets were at Grouville Marsh. In Rue des Ifs in Trinity were 80 Chaffinches.
