A very poor morning for weather with rain and drizzle, plus some hill fog reducing visibility to very poor at times. Winds were from the West-southwest, veering north west as the weather cleared to produce a fine afternoon, as requested by the Jersey Battle of Flowers!
Some occasional seawatching from Corbiere saw just 12 Balearic Shearwaters, 2 Manx Shearwaters, 46 Gannets, 26 Shags, 8 Cormorants, 49 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 39 Great Black-backed Gulls, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, a Whimbrel and a Curlew, also a Willow Warbler was in bushes there. Roosting at Petit Port were the family of Shelduck, 58 Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Sandwich Terns, 32 Curlews, 2 Whimbrels, 52 Oystercatchers and 8 Little Egrets.
Seen from the Wetland Centre at St Ouen's Pond were 6 Swifts, 6 Sand Martins, 8 House Martins, 20 Swallows, a Snipe, 10 Black-headed Gulls and a Reed Warbler feeding a young bird, while in the backfields were c100 Great Black-backed Gulls and 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls
Yesterday, a late visit to St Ouen's Bay saw 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, a second year bird and a juvenile, 65 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 52 Great Black-backed Gulls, 10 Mediterranean Gulls and 70 Black-headed Gulls. Also yesterday, at Elizabeth Castle was a roost of 335 Oystercatchers.
A late record from the 4th was of a Hobby hawking at Les Landes.
