18.12.2024 A Water Pipit at the Wetland Centre today MD
A very mild (14c)and cloudy day in a blustery southwest wind.
In St Ouen's Bay today, starting at the Wetland Centre were 47 Lapwings, 7 Snipe, 16 Shovelers, 5 Teal, a Grey Heron, a Water Pipit and 2 Stonechats. Among very few birds seen from the Scrape Hide was a Bittern flying to the main reedbed, a Water Rail, 6 Brent Geese, a Grey Heron, 5 Teal overflying, several Meadow Pipits and a Chiffchaff. By Sands Slip were 44 Ringed Plovers, 2 Sanderlings, a Turnstone and 8 Dunlin and at the bottom of Jubilee Hill were a Pink-footed Goose and a Barnacle Goose feeding together. The Hoopoe was seen again this afternoon in the usual location, where 3 Pied Wagtails were also present.
3 Cattle Egrets were in a field near to Jardin d'Olivet while at Beaumont Marsh were a Teal, 2 Stonechats, 11 Redwings and 2 Chiffchaffs.
Some interesting birds seen in fields at Crabbe , included a Serin in sub-song, a Merlin, a female Hen Harrier, a Marsh Harrier, a Kestrel, 2 Stonechats, 400 Chaffinches, 2 Bramblings, 40 Goldfinches, 280 Linnets, 18 Reed Buntings, 15 Song Thrushes, 2 Redwings, 2 Choughs, a Raven and a possible Little Bunting.
Just a few birds were seen from Corbiere this morning which included a Black-throated Diver, 4 Razorbills, 5 Gannets, 22 Shags, 5 Kittiwakes, a Mediterranean Gull, a Curlew and 9 Purple Sandpipers.
Yesterday evening at Mont Mado were 8 Snipe and 8 Woodcock with another 2 Woodcock at Woodlands Farm
