A fair to fine day in a moderate west-northwest wind
After yesterday afternoon's strong winds, there was, predictably, some lively movement of relocating shearwaters past Corbiere this morning. Counts there included 1,167 Balearic Shearwaters, 59 Manx Shearwaters, a distant Skua sp, 7 Fulmars, 67 Gannets, 49 Shags, 13 Cormorants, 91 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 26 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 Black-headed Gulls, 43 Sandwich Terns and a Whimbrel. Also, notably, a pod of 4 Risso's Dolphins moved West, possibly a family group. 4 Wheatears were on the headland. In Petit Port Bay were 84 Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Black-headed Gulls, 30 Curlews, a Whimbrel, and a Peregrine causing some consternation. 5 Choughs were near Gorselands and another was at Corbiere.
At a quiet St Ouen's Pond were 4 Sedge Warblers, 10 Reed Warblers, 3 Willow Warblers, 2 Water Rails, 2 Swifts, 25 Swallows, 8 Shovelers and 3 Marsh Harriers. On Mont Matthieu were 25 House Martins, 15 Swallows, the family of Little Grebes, a Willow Warbler and 2 Choughs.
Up to 12 Little Egrets are currently using the trees between St Aubin's Harbour and Bel Croute, as a roost.
On the East side of the Island, a Wheatear was at the Happy Hens and a Grey Heron, a Little Egret and 2 Buzzards were at Anneport.
