27.10.2024  A very smart looking Blackbird at Noirmont   MD

A fine day with light northwest winds.


If yesterday was a busy day for Woodpigeons then today was a scale up again, with 75,630 passing over Noirmont through the morning and smaller numbers reported from various roost sites around the Island. Apart from that, it was a quieter day at Noirmont, although most other species numbers would be undercounts, given the above. Counts included 7 Skylarks, 126 Redwings, 29 Song Thrushes, 9 Blackbirds, 27 Stock Doves, 636 Starlings, 149 Chaffinches, 75 Linnets, 31 Goldfinches, 2 Reed Buntings, 83 Meadow Pipits, 6 Stonechats, 10+ Robins, 4 Dartford Warblers, 26 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2 Marsh Harriers and 5 Buzzards.  The visible migration counts from Victoria Tower included a Great White Egret, 201 Redwings, 14 Song Thrushes, 10 Blackbirds, 8 Skylarks, 364 Woodpigeons, 14 Stock Doves, 107 Chaffinches, 12 Goldfinches, 8 Greenfinches, 2 Siskins, 13 Pied Wagtails, 11 Meadow Pipits, a Firecrest and 2 Goldcrests.


Further single Great White Egrets were seen at La Hougue Bie and Queen's Valley, where a Common Gull was also present and a Snow Bunting was reported from Fort Henry in Grouville Bay.


At Ouaisne this morning were a Yellow-browed Warbler, 12 Firecrests, a Goldcrest, 10 Chiffchaffs, a Reed Bunting, 5 Song Thrushes, 4 Redwings, 2 Water Rails and 4 Skylarks flying over and at Petit Port were 37 Curlews, a Whimbrel, 15 Ringed Plovers, 68 Black-headed Gulls, 8 Little Egrets, a Kingfisher and 4 Turnstones. At St Aubin  were 200+ Black-headed Gulls, 68 Brent Geese and 28 Redshanks. In the St Helier Marina were a Kingfisher and a roost of at least 272 alba Wagtails.  On the Scrape were 5 Lapwings, a Snipe, 8 Teal and a Water Rail.  26 Ringed Plovers and 2 Pied Wagtails were by Sands. At Dannemarche reservoir were 22 Tufted Ducks.


23 Cattle Egrets were at Grouville Marsh, a Grey Wagtail and 2 Ravens were in St Catherine's Woods and at Rue du Pont in Trinity were a Siskin, a Goldcrest and a late House Martin.


In Vallee des Vaux this evening were 2 Firecrests, a Goldcrest, a Siskin and 9 Redwings.

25.10.2024 Thanks to Romano for this nearly in your face image of yesterday's Spoonbill passing over Victoria Tower A showery morning, becoming dry but cloudy in a south-southwest wind. It was another busy start to the day at Victoria Tower, albeit less manic than yesterday. Seen in the first two hours of daylight were 11 Hawfinches , 1,046 Redwings , 83 Song Thrushes, 39 Blackbirds , 15 Skylarks , 979 Woodpigeons , 12 Swallows , 493 Chaffinches , a Brambling , 28 Goldfinches and 4 Siskins . Noirmont's totals over four hours included 5,780 Woodpigeons , 14 Stock Doves , 3 Swallows , 271 Redwings , 53 Song Thrushes , 24 Blackbirds , a Brambling , 82 Chaffinches , 9 Goldfinches , 5 Linnets , 148 Starlings , 4 Pied Wagtails, 2 Skylarks , 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , a Grey Heron , 9 Choughs , 2 Ravens , a migrant Peregrine , a Sparrowhawk and 5 Stonechats . At St Aubin this afternoon were 400-500 Brent Geese and 70 Black-headed Gulls and in St Helier Harbour was a Kingfisher . At Petit Port was another Kingfisher , as well as a Grey Heron , 2 Cormorants , 25 Curlews , 6 Ringed Plovers , 5 Turnstones and 12 Great Black-backed Gulls . In Grouville Bay were 340 Brent Geese , 6 Great Crested Grebes , 2 Wheatears and 250 Starlings . Another Wheatear was at Kempt Tower in St Ouen's Bay. At Queen's Valley this morning were 11 Redwings , a Swallow , a Grey Heron, 21 Tufted Ducks , a Grey Wagtail , another Kingfisher , 6 Long-tailed Tits , a Firecrest , a Short-toed Treecreeper, 2 Ravens and 150 Herring Gulls . At the Scrape this evening were 2 Reed Buntings, 4 Marsh Harriers , 4 Lapwings , 3 Teal and a Water Rail and at Grouville Marsh were 21 Cattle Egrets, 5 Song Thrushes , 4 Redwings , a Reed Bunting, 3 Chiffchaffs and a Firecrest
