La Sente is basically one large field just inland in Grouville Bay. During Summer it is dry and carries a crop rather than birds, but it comes into it’s own during Autumn and Winter when it floods and large numbers of Dark-bellied Brent Geese join roosting Grey Herons, Little Egrets and in recent years, Cattle Egrets. Several rarities have appeared both here and across the lane in The Happy Hens farm, notably of recent, Glossy Ibises, Common Crane, and several scarce species of wader.
Heading north from La Rocque along the Grouville coast road ( La Grande Route des Sablons) take a left turn into a small lane on the left by a chapel, La Rue de la Sente Maillard, stopping a few hundred metres later, after passing a right then left bend. Park with caution as the lane is narrow. The flooded field is on the north side of the lane. Due to their proximity, the birds are easily disturbed here so under no circumstances enter the field, and remain screened by the hedging.
