St Catherine's Woods

This beautiful mature woodland holds all the species you would expect, and include Short-toed Treecreeper, breeding Firecrest, Goldcrest, Buzzard, Great Spotted Woodpecker, and formerly Lesser Spotted Woodpecker which is now, sadly, extinct in the Island. Being close to the coast, migrants appear from time to time and have included Golden Oriole, Wood Warbler, and Hoopoe to mention a few

Getting There

Located on the northeast of the Island it is among the best wooded areas of mature mixed woodland in Jersey. Follow the coast road- La Route de la Cote, north from Gorey past Anneport and Archirondel whose bays are worth a look for Divers, Mergansers and various Gulls in season. At the crossroads with La Route des St Catherine, cross straight over into a small lane. There is a no entry sign in the lane, but you branch left after a few metres and before the no entry and will arrive at a dirt car park just before a small reservoir. Park here and walk into the woods on a good track, passing the reservoir on your right. You can walk right through the woods on this trail which may be muddy in parts after rain.
