02.04.2024 Little Egrets in breeding plumage, over the Scrape this morning MD
A dry start to the day, with rain late morning until dark, accompanied by strong and gusty south-west, becoming southerly winds
After several outstanding days of seawatching, it was back to something more normal at Corbiere this morning and in a three hour watch, 58 Manx
Shearwaters, 16 Guillemots, a single Razorbill, 3 Fulmars, 34 Gannets, 40 Great Black-backed Gulls, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 23 Kittiwakes and
2 Peregrines were seen.
At St Ouen's Pond were 28 Shovelers, 6 Tufted Ducks and Mallards now with young, with three families of 12 young, 8 young and 7 young this morning, but how many will still be there in a weeks time? Also present were a Snipe, a pair of Oystercatchers, a Cormorant, 6 Swallows and a Water Pipit. On the Scrape were the Pink-footed Goose, the Barnacle Goose, 8 Lapwings, 5 Teal, 3 Little Egrets and c30 Linnets, with another 15 Linnets near Le Braye. Little Grebes were singing at Kempt Tower pools, where 3 Tufted Duck, a Blackcap and 10+ Chiffchaffs were also seen or heard. In the Sandpits were 8 Tufted Duck, 14 Sand Martins and a Swallow, and a Wheatear was at Les Landes.
At La Sente were 37 Brent Geese, 2 Shelduck, 4 Black-headed Gulls, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, 17 Little Egrets, 8 Cattle Egrets, 2 Greenshanks and 9 White Wagtails.
Elsewhere, a Redwing was at Handois and 2 Siskins plus 4 Bullfinches were in Vallee des Vaux.
