03.06.2024 A female Shelduck passing Corbiere this morning MD
A fine day with high cloud at times, in a moderate northwest wind.
The current settled spell of anticyclonic weather conditions is good for the breeding birds, not so good for observers trying to find something a little different though. It was more, in the same vein at Corbiere this morning with counts of 3 Shelduck, 3 Guillemots, a Razorbill, 3 Manx Shearwaters, a Fulmar, 22 Gannets, a Curlew, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Peregrines, a Raven and, arriving from the South, a White Wagtail, 16 Swifts and 12 Swallows. Another White Wagtail was near the Desalination Plant and in Petit Port Bay were a pair of Shelduck and a Curlew - possibly the same bird as seen at Corbiere later on.
On St Ouen's Pond Scrape were a pair of Shelduck with 2 young, a Grey Heron, a Little Egret, Lapwings with a single chick, and a Moorhen with one chick, and on St Ouen's Pond earlier were Shovelers with 6 chicks, a Tufted Duck, 2 Grey Herons, 2 House Martins, plus the usual Cetti's Warblers and Reed Warblers.
4 male Stonechats were seen at Les Landes as well as a Peregrine and another male Shelduck was at Le Pulec.
Elsewhere, both Spotted Flycatcher and Garden Warbler were reported from Beaumont Marsh and 18 Swifts were seen over Elizabeth Castle.
A report for yesterday, at Les Ecrehous were 2 Knot.
