03.09.2024  Colour-rings continue to appear on a daily basis, with this Lesser Black-backed Gull, pictured here by Romano at Petit Port, bearing a Norwegian ring


A fair to cloudy day in a moderate west-northwest wind.


A good number of birds flying past Corbiere through this morning included 132 Balearic Shearwaters, 3 Manx Shearwaters, a Sooty Shearwater, 6 Common Scoter accompanied by a Teal, 54 Gannets, 17 Cormorants, 48 Shags 2 Grey Herons, 32 Mediterranean Gulls, 14 Black-headed Gulls, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, an Arctic Tern, 87 Sandwich Terns, a Whimbrel, 2 Curlews, 2 Common Sandpipers and an arriving Marsh Harrier. On the headland were a Wheatear, a White Wagtail, 12 Rock Pipits and 16 Choughs.


On St Ouen's Pond Scrape were 12 Teal, 2 Shovelers, a Redshank, a Greenshank and a Snipe, while in the Sandits were 12 Little Grebes, 2 Great Crested Grebes and a Common Sandpiper. In St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were a Caspian Gull, a Yellow-legged Gull, 20 Lesser Black-backed Gulls including one with a Spanish ring, 60 Great Black-backed Gulls and 16 Mediterranean Gulls.


6 Stonechats were at Les Landes and on Grands Vaux were 8 Tufted Duck and a Grey Wagtail.


Back to yesterday evening and at St Ouen's Pond were 52 Sand Martins, 50 Swallows, a Grey Heron, a Water Rail, 3 Marsh Harriers, a Barn Owl, a Green Sandpiper and a Yellow Wagtail. A Dunlin was at the Scrape and 2 Swifts were seen over Mont Les Vaux in St Aubin.
