05.08.2024 Female Shoveler at St Ouen's Pond MD
A fine morning, becoming cloudy this afternoon in light winds.
Seabirds continued to feature off the West coast today, Seen from Corbiere were 262 Balearic Shearwaters, 32 Manx Shearwaters, many visiting the Tuna boils, 5 Common Scoters, 4 Shovelers, 4 Fulmars, 35 Gannets, an Arctic Skua, 17 Cormorants, 43 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Kittiwakes, 3 Yellow-legged Gulls, 25 Black-headed Gulls, 17 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 61 Sandwich Terns. Waders seen included 3 Ringed Plovers, a Common Sandpiper and 4 Turnstones. 6 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were also seen. At Petit Port were 28 Mediterranean Gulls, 6 Sandwich Terns, 5 Black-headed Gulls, a Common Sandpiper, a Whimbrel, 24 Curlews and 8 Little Egrets. Seen from Grosnez were 6 Gannets, a Kittiwake, a Mediterranean Gull and 2 Peregrines.
At Le Pulec were a Common Sandpiper and the Shelduck family of five, which were later seen at Petit Port. 2 Grey Seals were also at Le Pulec. Elsewhere in St Ouen's Bay, 13 Little Grebes, 56 Tufted Duck, 160 Coot, 12 Cormorants, 2 Little Egrets, and a Grey Heron were in the Sandpits, but no Sand Martins were seen there. 23 Mediterranean Gulls were at La Pulente, 5 Teal and a Common Sandpiper were on the Scrape and a Pochard was on St Ouen's Pond. At Gorselands were another Peregrine, a Willow Warbler and a Dartford Warbler. Yet another Peregrine was seen over St Peter's Village, at M&S.
Passing La Rocque this morning were 250 Sandwich Terns, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Grey Herons and 32 Little Egrets, and a Wheatear was a new arrival there.
