06.08.2024 An interesting transitional plumaged Lesser Black-backed Gull at Grosnez MD
A weak cold front crossed the Island this morning, bring overcast conditions with some rain and drizzle, before clearing this afternoon. Wnds were in the south ahead of the front and northwest behind it.
Seen passing Corbiere ahead of the rain this morning were 87 Manx Shearwaters, 66 Balearic Shearwaters, 45 Gannets, 43 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 29 Mediterranean Gulls, 26 Black-headed Gulls, 14 Sandwich Terns, 11 Little Egrets heading off, 4 Whimbrels, 4 Ringed Plovers, a Turnstone and a Common Sandpiper with a Grey Seal feeding offshore. In Petit Port Bay were 107 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Black-headed Gulls, 4 Sandwich Terns, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, the family of Shelduck, a Common Sandpiper, 33 Curlews and 2 Whimbrels.
In St Ouen's Bay Sandpits were 5 Little Grebes, a male Pochard, 34 Tufted Ducks, a White Wagtail and one Sand Martin nest site still active. On the Scrape this afternoon were 2 Shovelers, 2 Teal, a Grey Heron, a Snipe, 2 Common Sandpipers and a Green Sandpiper.
At Pontac were 100+ Sandwich Terns, 50 Oystercatchers and 74 Crows on and around the slipway.
Evening update: 3 Sedge Warblers were at St Ouen's Pond and another Sedge Warbler was at Grouville Marsh. At Grands Vaux were a Common Sandpiper, 3 Tufted Duck and 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
Some extras for yesterday include a Green Sandpiper in the Sandpits, the Shelduck family at La Pulente and 60 Mediterranean Gulls at Petit Port.
