07.11.2024 A daily visitor to the bunker at Noirmont at the moment MD
Fog was back on the scene this morning, but did clear to a low overcast in a cold-feeling southeast wind.
A Hoopoe was a decent sighting for November, at La Saline in St Ouen's Bay and seen from the Wetland Centre were a Bittern and 9 Lapwings.
The Snow Bunting was still by Fort Henry and a second one was on St Catherine's Breakwater, from where a Great Northern Diver, a Merlin, a Shelduck, 12 Razorbills, a Common Gull, a Mediterranean Gull and c400 Woodpigeons were also seen. At La Rocque were 60 Dunlin, 12 Ringed Plovers, 5 Grey Plovers, 3 Greenshanks, 17 Redshanks, a Curlew, 20 Brent Geese and a Grey Seal.
The semi-visual migration counts continued in this morning's fog and counted at Victoria Tower were 4 Hawfinches, 841 Redwings, 23 Fieldfares, 20 Song Thrushes, 6 Skylarks, 1,048 Woodpigeons, 8 Stock Doves, 82 Chaffinches, 67 Goldfinches, 39 Linnets, 8 Pied Wagtails, 9 Meadow Pipits and 364 Starlings, with 5 Firecrests, 6 Goldcrests and 6 Chiffchaffs present.
Woodpigeons dominated again at Noirmont, with 20,450 counted and no doubt, many more missed in the conditions. Others seen there included 3 Hawfinches, 18 Skylarks, 2 Fieldfares, 31 Redwings, 10 Song Thrushes, 648 Starlings, 48 Meadow Pipits, 3 Pied Wagtails, 75 Chaffinches, 3 Goldfinches, a single Linnet, 3 Goldfinches, a Peregrine, a Marsh Harrier and 2 Cormorants.
Elsewhere, a Grey Heron, a Buzzard and 160 Woodpigeons were over Rozel and a Skylark flew over M&S in St Peter.
