And the greyness continues, feeling cool in a moderate southeast wind
The Woodpigeon extravaganza continued today too, with a mighty 40,680 counted pouring past Noirmont, with a steady re-supply still flying east over Red Houses at lunchtime and reports of many more from all over the Island.
A good mixture of species passing Victoria Tower this morning included 4 Woodlarks, 5,325 Redwings, 27 Fieldfares, 38 Song Thrushes, 6 Blackbirds, 19 Skylarks, 12,430 Woodpigeons, 7 Stock Doves, 622 Chaffinches, 8 Bramblings, 96 Linnets, 43 Goldfinches, 29 Siskins, 4 Pied Wagtails, 8 Meadow Pipits, 2 Lesser Black-backed gulls and 4 Firecrests.
As well as the Woodpigeons, passing Noirmont were a Lapland Bunting ( the first of the year), 3 Hawfinches, 1,750 Starlings, 11 Skylarks, a Snipe, 236 Redwings, 10 Fieldfares, 10 Song Thrushes, 202 Chaffinches, 13 Linnets, 2 Goldfinches, 93 Meadow Pipits, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 4 Black-headed Gulls and also, on the ground, 4 Stonechats, 2 Dartford Warblers, plus a few locals with 2 Ravens, 150 Crows and 4 Buzzards seen.
Seen from the Wetland Centre were 12 Shovelers, 3 Golden Plovers, 7 Snipe, 5 Lapwings flying over, 2 Water Pipits, 5 Water Rails, 2 Choughs, 2 alba Wagtails, a Kingfisher, a Reed Bunting, a Linnet and a late Ring Ouzel which landed briefly in from of the Wetland Centre.
In Beaumont Marsh were 2 Teal, 3 Snipe, 2 Ravens and 13 Meadow Pipits and at the Gunsite were c500 Brent Geese and 3 Great Crested Grebes, with 250 Black-headed Gulls and 15 Turnstones seen at St Aubin.
