08.10.2024 Curlews passing Corbiere this morning MD
A dry morning which turned very wet this afternoon in heavy and thundery showers. Winds were fresh to strong from the South.
Corbiere saw a good variety of seabirds passing in the gusty wind this morning. Among those passing, mainly into wind, were the first Red-throated Diver of the Autumn, a Grey Phalarope, 3 Balearic Shearwaters, 38 Gannets, 10 Guillemots, 4 Razorbills, 8 auk sp, 17 Cormorants, 16 Shags, a Kittiwake, 13 Mediterranean Gulls, 19 Black-headed Gulls, 11 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 73 Great Black-backed Gulls, 4 Sandwich Terns, a Turnstone, 34 Curlews, also 2 Swallows, 9 Linnets, 4 Grey Wagtails and a Sparrowhawk. Roosting at Petit Port were 225 Oystercatchers, 3 Curlews, 40 Turnstones and 7 Mediterranean Gulls.
At Le Pulec were another 200 Oystercatchers, 11 Little Egrets, a Cormorant, 9 Shags and 12 Ringed Plovers. In the shelter of the Sandpits were 17 Cormorants, a Grey Heron, 25 Tufted Ducks, 34 Little Grebes, a Great Crested Grebe, a White Wagtail and a Swallow. On Les Blanches Banques were 2 Wheatears.
21 Redshanks were roosting at St Aubin.
Evening update: In Les Ormes Valley today were 25 Chiffchaffs, 2 Firecrests, a Goldcrest, a Blackcap, 2 Song Thrushes and 12 Long-tailed Tits and in Grouville Bay, Brent Goose numbers had risen to 544, with a Pied Wagtail also seen there.
An extra for yesterday evening was a group of 25 Swallows, seen at the top of Grouville Hill.
