07.10.2024 A Woodpigeon in all it's glory, at Noirmont MD
A dry but mainly cloudy day in a fresh southerly wind
Counts on a quiet morning at Noirmont included an arrival of 12 Stonechats, 32 Swallows, 4 Skylarks, a Song Thrush, 338 Meadow Pipits, 3 alba Wagtails, 157 Linnets, 5 Siskins, 9 Chaffinches, 9 Starlings, 26 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 15 Great Black-backed Gulls, a Black-headed Gull, 7 Cormorants, 2 Ravens, 2 Choughs, and 2 Sparrowhawks.
In St Ouen's Bay, at the Wetland Centre, were 4 Shovelers and 2 Stonechats while on the Scrape were 6 Teal and 5 Lapwings and near La Tour Carre were 28 Ringed Plovers and a Sanderling. In the Sandpits were 38 Little Grebes, a Great Crested Grebe, 13 Tufted Duck, 10 Pochard, 25 Cormorants, a Grey Heron, a Little Egret, a Grey Wagtail and 2 Swallows.
Seen at Seymour were 18 Dunlin, 8 Bar-tailed Godwits and 3 Ringed Plovers and at La Lourderie, near La Rocque were 5 Grey Herons, 36 Linnets, 30 Swallows, 12 House Martins, 2 Stonechats, a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard and 3 Ravens.
In St Aubin's Bay, at least 80
Brent Geese were at West Park and 20
Redshanks were at St Aubin.
This Vapourer Moth, pictured at the Noirmont bunker this morning, is only the 6th record for Jersey, of a species which can be common in the UK MD
