09.07.2024 Green Sandpiper on the Scrape yesterday MD
A day of varying intensities of rain until late afternoon with winds from the south-southeast.
A little early passage of birds past Corbiere, before the rain got heavier, included 12 Common Scoters, 5 Shovelers, 2 Manx Shearwaters, 3 Guillemots, 188 Gannets, 7 Curlews, 2 Sandwich Terns, 7 Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Black-headed Gulls, 13 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2 Little Egrets, a Sparrowhawk and 14 Swifts. In Petit Port Bay were 23 Curlews and at La Pulente were the family of 5 Shelduck, 35 Black-headed Gulls and 5 Little Egrets.
At Sands slip in St Ouen's Bay were 2 White Wagtails and at Le Pulec were 14 Little Egrets and 2 Grey Seals.
On and around the Scrape this morning were 2 Green Sandpipers, 3 adult Lapwings, a Grey Heron, the family of 4 Shelduck, 4 juvenile Shovelers, a Black-headed Gull, a Little Egret and, overhead, were 16 Swifts, 15 House Martins, 10 Sand Martins, 5 Swallows, 3 juvenile Marsh Harriers and a Sparrowhawk. In the Sandpits were 2 Little Grebes, 122 Coot, 8 Tufted Ducks, 90 Swifts, 60 Sand Martins, 2 House Martins, 5 Black-headed Gulls including 2 juveniles, and a juvenile Marsh Harrier.
At St Aubin, small gull numbers had increased to 132 Black-headed Gulls and 13 Mediterranean Gulls, also 8 Curlews. 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers visited a garden on Mont Felard.
In Grouville Bay, seen from Le Hurel, were 206 Black-headed Gulls, 6 Mediterranean Gulls and 4 Curlews.
Later this afternoon, 4 Common Sandpipers were at Grands Vaux reservoir and a fledged juvenile Marsh Harrier was seen receiving food from it's father.
