10.10.2024 The first (and second) Redwings of the Autumn were on Les Minquiers yesterday, with thanks to Richard Gillam for this fine image.
A cool-feeling day, mainly cloudy with a fresh northwest wind.
After a slow start, there was some steady passage of migrants over Noirmont this morning. Counts included 136 Swallows, 6 House Martins, 2 Skylarks, 26 Starlings, the first 126 Woodpigeons of the season, 385 Meadow Pipits, 52 alba Wagtails, 2 Grey Wagtails, 209 Linnets, 37 Chaffinches, 103 Goldfinches, a Wheatear, 8 Stonechats and 2 Chiffchaffs. Offshore were 71 Black-headed Gulls, 15 Mediterranean Gulls, 17 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 16 Gannets and a Cormorant. Locals included a Sparrowhawk, a Kestrel, 4 Buzzards and 2 Dartford Warblers.
On Grouville Common were 6 Cirl Buntings including 3 juveniles, 4 Blackcaps, and several Chiffchaffs, while at La Sente were 8 Grey Herons and 13 Little Egrets. At Queen's Valley were 3 Teal, 16 Tufted Duck and a Greenshank. 15 Cattle Egrets were at Grouville Marsh. along with 3 Swallows and 10 Chiffchaffs. In Grouville Bay were a Wheatear, 8 Pied Wagtails, 2 White Wagtails, 474 Brent Geese, 14 Dunlin, 11 Sanderlings and a Greenshank.
4 Little Egrets were at Petit Port and c 20 Meadow Pipits were feeding by the radio tower at Corbiere. Another 3 Little Egrets were at Le Havre were more Meadow Pipits and Rock Pipits were also feeding there. 2 Ravens were in St Brelade's Bay.
In Les Ormes Valley were 8 Chiffchaffs, 2 Firecrests and a Water Rail.
On Les Minquiers yesterday were 2 Redwings, 3 Wheatears, a Robin, a Stonechat, a Willow Warbler, 6 Chiffchaffs, 8 Blackcaps and a Peregrine
