14.10.2024 Wheatear and Shore Lark together in St Ouen's Bay and still present today MD
An overcast day, with some light rain mid-morning, feeling mild at 15c in a southwest wind becoming westerly later.
The overcast conditions brought a few birds to ground through the morning, at Noirmont, which included a Ring Ouzel, 3 Blackbirds, 143 Song Thrushes and 41 Redwings. Flying through despite everything were a Snipe, 650 Woodpigeons, 16 Swallows, 6 Skylarks, 2 alba Wagtails, a Grey Wagtail, 123 Meadow Pipits, 102 Linnets, 6 Goldfinches, 11 Chaffinches and 10 Starlings. On the ground were a Whinchat, 6 Stonechats, 5 Robins and a Chiffchaff. Raptors active there included a Marsh Harrier, 3 Buzzards, 2 Sparrowhawks and 2 Kestrels, also 2 Ravens.
In St Ouen's Bay, the Shore Lark was present again, near to the Cutty Sark along with 2 Wheatears. At St Ouen's Pond were 8 Shovelers, a Snipe and a Cetti's Warbler.
Up at Les Landes, a Great White Egret was seen in flight before dropping into cover there and in the fields on the East side of the road were 2 Marsh Harriers, 5 Choughs and a Stonechat.
At Rozel were a Grey Heron and a Grey Wagtail.
Evening update: In the St Helier Marina this evening were c 100 alba Wagtails, a Grey Heron and a Kingfisher, while in Rue des Niemes in St Peter were 80 Pied Wagtails and at La Blinerie was a Firecrest. A Great White Egret was in the Sandpits in St Ouen's Bay this afternoon.
