15.10.2024 Great Spotted Woodpecker over Noirmont MD
A mainly dry day with high cloud, but mild in a moderate east-southeast wind
There was a steady trickle of birds over Noirmont through the morning, the highlight being a flight of 3 Hawfinches, also 3 Ring Ouzels, two of which came to ground. Others seen included 45 Swallows, 15 Song Thrushes, 2 Redwings, 4 Blackbirds, 2 Skylarks, 425 Woodpigeons, 702 Chaffinches, 105 Linnets, 80 Goldfinches, a Grey Wagtail, 8 alba Wagtails, 84 Meadow Pipits, 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Buzzards and 2 Kestrels.
The Shore Lark was present for another day, near the Cutty Sark in St Ouen's Bay, with 15 Ringed Plovers and a Sparrowhawk also seen there.
400 Woodpigeons flew over Vallee des Vaux early on and at the Gunsite were 70 Brent Geese and a Grey Heron. At Grouville Marsh were 6 Cattle Egrets, a Grey Wagtail, 6 Siskins and 6 Chiffchaffs.
Seen from a survey boat to the West of the Island were a Great Northern Diver, 10 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Balearic Shearwaters, a Storm Petrel, 5 Brent Geese, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 5 Sandwich Terns and 13 Gannets.
At Corbiere were 2 Wheatears, 2 Stonechats, 2 Choughs, 2 Ravens, a Sparrowhawk and a Dartford Warbler and in the Sandpits were 3 Mediterranean Gulls, a Stonechat, a Lesser Black-backed Gull and the usual good numbers of Little Grebes. Up at Plemont were 90 Linnets, 25 Goldfinches, 2 Stonechats, 6 Meadow Pipits, 2 Marsh Harriers and 2 Chiffchaffs.
