14.12.2024 A Raven over Corbiere MD
A cold front brought some early showery rain, with an improvement through the morning in a northwest wind and feeling milder at 9c.
Early movement past Corbiere as the rain cleared included 774 Razorbills, 162 Guillemots, 2 Red-throated Divers, 18 Gannets, 3 Cormorants, 51 Kittiwakes, 8 Mediterranean Gulls, a Black-headed Gull, 4 Common Gulls, a Sandwich Tern, a Curlew and 2 Ravens with a Harbour Porpoise feeding offshore.
In conservation fields near Crabbe this morning were a ring-tailed Hen Harrier, a Buzzard, a Kestrel, 2 Choughs, c500 Chaffinches, 30 Goldfinches and 30 Linnets. In Birdsong Garden at St Ouen were 100 Redwings and 200 Chaffinches. A Water Rail was taken into care from St Peter's Valley, by the JSPCA, having been caught by a cat. while in Waterworks Valley were 17 Tufted Ducks. Garden birds in Vallee des Vaux included a Blackcap, a Firecrest, a Goldcrest and a Redwing.
Seen from the Wetland Centre this afternoon were 5 Snipe, 9 Brent Geese, 5 Cormorants and a Little Grebe and roosting at Petit Port were 44 Curlews, 175 Oystercatchers, 11 Brent Geese, 5 Great Black-backed Gulls and a Black-headed Gull. At Beaumont Marsh this afternoon were a Sparrowhawk, a Teal, 7 Snipe, a Grey Wagtail and a Firecrest.
