15.07.2024. A young Reed Warbler by the Scrape Hide. MD
A day of showers, some very heavy, in a fresh easterly wind.
Pick of the day was a Pied Flycatcher seen at Gorselands this morning.
A little early movement past Corbiere, before the showers arrived, included 5 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Balearic Shearwaters, 10 Common Scoters, 3 Guillemots, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, 7 Black-headed Gulls, a Curlew, a Grey Heron and 5+ Bottle-nosed Dolphins. At Petit Port were a Whimbrel and 25 Curlews and at La Pulente was the family of 5 Shelduck.
Seen in Grouville Bay were 350 Black-headed Gulls, 24 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Sandwich Terns, and 4 Common Terns, and in St Aubin's Bay, between West Park and Beaumont were 60+ Black-headed Gulls including 4 juveniles and 3 Mediterranean Gulls.
On the Scrape at St Ouen's Pond were the Shelduck family of four, 2 Teal, 2 juvenile Shovelers, the family of 5 Lapwings, 2 Snipe, the Sedge Warbler singing and displaying again despite the conditions, several juvenile Reed Warblers, 2 young Moorhens with an adult bird, 5 Swifts, 150 Swallows, 50 Sand Martins, 5 House Martins, several wet Marsh Harriers and a Buzzard, also a singing Skylark and on the Pond were a Water Rail and a Grey Heron.
A late report for yesterday was of up to 200 Swifts seen feeding in the Sandpits in St Ouen's Bay at lunchtime
