16.03.2024 Male Shelduck at La Sente yesterday MD
A dry but cloudy day, feeling cool in a moderate southerly wind
The early morning seawatch at Corbiere was enhanced this morning, by the first 6 Manx Shearwaters passing southwards, on a very early date for the species. Also passing were a Common Scoter, 46 Razorbills, 27 Guillemots, 4 Fulmars, 19 Gannets, 2 Kittiwakes, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2 Common Gulls, 7 Turnstones, a Pied Wagtail and a Harbour Porpoise. In Petit Port Bay were 19 Curlews, 131 Oystercatchers and 13 Brent Geese.
Passing Seymour in Grouville Bay were 16 Red-breasted Mergansers, 12 Common Scoters, 15 Great Crested Grebes, 7 Razorbills and 2 Sandwich Terns and at La Rocque were 128 Brent Geese, 12 Red-breasted Mergansers, 2 Slavonian Grebes, a Great Crested Grebe, 34 Curlews, 3 Grey Herons, a Razorbill, 37 Grey Plovers, 30 Turnstones, 11 Sanderlings, 38 Dunlin, 60 Oystercatchers and a Sandwich Tern. At La Sente were 16 Cattle Egrets, 28 Little Egrets, a Common Gull, 36 Redshanks, 5 Greenshanks, a Teal and 7 Song Thrushes.
In Beaumont Marsh were 122 Brent Geese - 43 of them pale-bellied Brent, 4 Shovelers, 4 Pied Wagtails, a Chiffchaff, a Little Egret, 4 Siskins and 51 Woodpigeons. A further 16 dark-bellied Brent were at Rozel and 2 pale-bellied Brent were at St Aubin.
Seen at Sorel were a Wheatear, an alba Wagtail and 32 Meadow Pipits, in Vallee des Vaux was a Siskin and at Ouaisne were 3 Song Thrushes, 15 Chiffchaffs and a Skylark foying over in song.
