17.03.2024 A trio of Wigeon at the Scrape this morning MD
An overcast day with early drizzle, winds from the southwest
Seen at the Scrape in murky conditions this morning were a Pink-footed Goose, a White-fronted Goose, a Barnacle Goose, 110 Brent Geese, a pair of Shelduck, 38 Teal, 6 Wigeon, a male Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, 8 Lapwings, a mating pair of Oystercatcher and 3 Stonechats.
27 Brent Geese flew past Corbiere at first light, heading high to the East and also seen there were 10 Razorbills, 2 Fulmars and 6 Gannets, but there was no significant passage seen. Off Grosnez were 2 Guillemots and 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, with a Peregrine, 2 Ravens and 2 Stonechats also seen. 10+ Common Dolphins were feeding there. At Plemont were 11 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Marsh Harrier, a Chough and a Pied Wagtail. 17 Brent Geese, 13 Curlews, a Cormorant and 2 Little Egrets were at Petit Port. 2 Peregrines and a Wheatear were at Gorselands.
Today's counts at La Sente included 110 Brent Geese, 2 Shelduck, 54 Cattle Egrets, 26 Redshanks, 5 Greenshanks, 22 Black-headed Gulls, 3 Common Gulls, 5 Pied Wagtails, 2 White Wagtails, a flock of Siskin and another of Linnet. At Le Catillon were 56 Common Gulls. Around La Rocque Harbour were a Black-necked Grebe, 155 Brent Geese including one pale-bellied Brent and 8 Sandwich Terns.
On Grands Vaux reservoir were 2 Teal and 8 Tufted Duck and in Vallee des Vaux were 7 Bullfinches, 3 Blackcaps, 20 Siskins, a Sparrowhawk and a pair of Kestrel. In Grouville Marsh were 10 Chiffchaffs, 4 singing Cetti's Warblers, 2 Bullfinches, 4 Water Rails, 2 Cattle Egrets, a pair of Marsh Harrier and 3 overflying Common Gulls. At Beaumont Marsh were 100 Brent Geese, 2 Little Egrets, a Firecrest, a Pied Wagtail and a Lesser Black-backed Gull.
