16.08.2024 Eight Common Sandpipers roosting together at Petit Port this week MD
A morning of overcast conditions with rain and drizzle and poor visibility, in a west-southwest wind. The worst of the conditions had gone by mid afternoon.
Viewed from the relative comfort of the Wetland Centre were an arriving Cattle Egret, the first Spotted Flycatcher of the Autumn passage, a Water Rail, an overflying Ringed Plover, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Black-headed Gull, 15 Swallows and 5 House Martins.
Scattered around the headland at Noirmont were a Redstart, a Whitethroat, a Blackcap, 2 Willow Warblers, 3 Chiffchaffs, 4 Dartford Warblers, 3 Stonechats and 12 Swallows. There was no sign of the Red-backed Shrike.
Just a few birds were seen from Corbiere early on, which included 28 Gannets, 18 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Grey Herons and a Little Egret.
At St Aubin were 22 Sandwich Terns and a Little Egret. and at Le Pulec this afternoon were 40 Curlews and 7 Little Egrets. 2 Swifts were seen over Beauport. 100+ Black-headed Gulls were anting over Mont Les Vaux, where they were joined by a single Jackdaw.
In a garden in Vallee des Vaux was a Willow Warbler with another in a maize field at La Rocque. 2 Grey Herons were at Grands Vaux and there was a late report of a Turtle Dove calling from National Trust land in Fern Valley on the 12th.
