A dry and fair to fine day in an increasing north-easterly wind.
A Spoonbill was seen and photographed at La Rocque this afternoon as well as an overflying Great White Egret. A Spoonbill was reported from the Scrape an hour later, so could it be the same bird? 23 Grey Herons were in fields behind La Rocque too.
Corbiere saw a varied selection of migrants moving past this morning. Passing offshore were 484 Balearic Shearwaters, 3 Manx Shearwaters, 5 dark-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Common Scoters, a distant skua sp, possibly a Pomarine Skua, a Guillemot, 20 Cormorants, a Yellow-legged Gull, 30 Mediterranean Gulls, a Common Gull, 6 Black-headed Gulls, 87 Sandwich Terns, a Whimbrel, 3 Curlews, a Turnstone, 3 Grey Herons and 3 Little Egrets. Arriving off the sea from the northwest were a Hobby, a Peregrine, 2 Yellow Wagtails, a Grey Wagtail, 3 alba Wagtails, 89 Meadow Pipits, 352 Swallows, 160 House Martins, 4 Sand Martins, 38 Linnets and 7 Goldfinches. 2 Willow Warblers and 2 Wheatears were on the ground there.
On St Ouen's Pond Scrape were 8 Teal, 6 Grey Herons, 15 Goldfinches, 12 Meadow Pipits and a Reed Warbler ( plus the Spoonbill) and in the Sandpits were 2 Great Crested Grebes, 28 Little Grebes, 4 Pochard, 8 Tufted Duck, a Greenshank, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, a Sparrowhawk, and a Buzzard. A Redstart was seen at Le Pulec and another Redstart was in a garden at Le Huquet in St Martin. 40 House Martins were feeding over Wheatlands in St Peter and 30 Swallows were doing likewise at the Atlantic Hotel. A Spotted Flycatcher was seen by the bunker at Noirmont.
In Grouville Marsh were 29 Cattle Egrets, 2 Snipe, 37 Coot and a Sparrowhawk with another 11 Cattle Egrets seen at Le Catillon. At Le Hurel were 52 Ringed Plovers until disturbed by a Peregrine, 4 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Turnstone.
