An overcast morning was followed by some welcome heavy rain this afternoon, still warm in a southerly wind.
Over this morning's early high tide at La Rocque and Seymour were 6 Common Scoters, 75 Sandwich Terns, 8 Common Terns, 62 Mediterranean Gulls, 152 Black-headed Gulls, a Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 12 Gannets, 11 Cormorants, a Common Sandpiper, 3 Whimbrels, 33 Curlews and a Kingfisher ( in La Rocque Harbour). 8 House Martins and 9 Swallows flew over.
At Grouville Marsh from first light were 2 Swifts, 20 Chiffchaffs, 6 Blackcaps, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 10 Reed Warblers including one juvenile, a male Marsh Harrier, a Raven and a female Tufted Duck. In Vallee des Vaux were Firecrests with one fledged young and 2 juvenile White Wagtails were at the Farmers Cricket Ground in St Martin.
On the Scrape at St Ouen's Pond were 6 Lapwings, a juvenile Marsh Harrier, 14 Long-tailed Tits and the singing Sedge Warbler. A Common Sandpiper was in the Sandpits.
Extra reports for yesterday include 2 Swifts, 50 Sand Martins, 4 House Martins and 50 Swallows at St Ouen's Pond and 3 juvenile Marsh Harriers at Kempt Tower. 8 Swifts were over the Weighbridge in St Helier.
Evening update: Over 400 Balearic Shearwaters were seen rafting offshore west of L'Etacq and Grosnez today during a Marinelife survey from the Commodore Islander.
