24.02.2024 A pair of sleeping Sanderlings in St Ouen's Bay RdC
A mixed day of sunshine and showers and a strong south westerly wind
It was the morning of organised Brent and waders counts, with numbers to follow at a later date.
Seen at La Sente this morning were 598 Brent Geese, 2 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 76 Redshank, 5 Greenshank, 3 Cattle Egret, 6 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron, 42 Black-headed Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull, a Common Gull and 18 Pied Wagtail while nearby at La Rocque were a Great Northern Diver, 107 Brent Geese, 127 Grey Plover, 76 Oystercatcher, 150 Dunlin, 20 Sanderling, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 22 Turnstone, a Guillemot and 11 Red-breasted Merganser.
The ringtail Hen Harrier was still at St Ouen's Pond along with 16 Wigeon, 3 Pochard, 32 Teal, 6 Lapwing and a Redshank while in the Sandpits were 6 Tufted Duck, 2 Pochard, 3 Little Grebe and 4 Oystercatcher.
In Fountain Lane were a Cetti's Warbler, 6 Water Rail, a Grey Wagtail and 2 Marsh Harrier, at Grands Vaux were 13 Tufted Duck and a Lesser Black-backed Gull and 16 Lesser Black-backed Gull were at the town Harbour.
