A day of varying amounts of cloud in a light westerly wind, with rain arriving late in the afternoon.
Some hints of passerine migration are starting to appear and at Grouville Marsh this morning were 2 Willow Warblers, a Sedge Warbler and a Kingfisher. At Mont Matthieu, above St Ouen's Bay, were 25 Swifts, another Willow Warbler, a juvenile White Wagtail, 75 Linnets and a juvenile Marsh Harrier.
At La Pulente this morning were the pair of Shelduck, still with 3, now large, young in tow. 2 Mediterranean Gulls and 30 Black-headed Gulls were also there, while at Petit Port were 25 Mediterranean Gulls and on the falling tide later morning, 32 Curlews.
Counts from Corbiere included an early adult Pomarine Skua which had a brief dash at a passing Mediterranean Gull, 4 Balearic Shearwaters, 2 Manx Shearwaters, a Fulmar, 89 Gannets - mostly sub-adult birds, 45 Shags, 16 Cormorants, 42 Mediterranean Gulls, 14 Black-headed Gulls, 14 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Sandwich Tern, a Common Sandpiper, a Whimbrel, 40 Curlews heading along the South coast to roost, 2 departing Swallows and 6 Common Dolphins, some way offshore.
On Beauport Common were a Whitethroat, a juvenile Stonechat and a Peregrine, while at Gorselands were 2 Dartford Warblers and another Peregrine.
Over the Albert Pier in St Helier were 20 Swifts, with up to 30 having been seen there yesterday. 4 Swifts were over Fort Regent, posssibly some of the same birds.
