26.07.2024 Adult Sandwich Tern at Petit Port this morning MD
A dry day, but mainly cloudy in a west-northwest wind.
The daily counts from Corbiere continue and today included 7 Balearic Shearwaters, 7 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Common Scoters, 2 Guillemots, 3 Fulmars, 60 Gannets, 90 Shags, 25 Cormorants, 6 Little Egrets, 27 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 65 Great Black-backed Gulls, 18 Mediterranean Gulls, 6 Black-headed Gulls, 10 Sandwich Terns, the flock of 40 Curlews from Petit Port, a Whimbrel, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Turnstones and 3 flocks comprising 20 Oystercatchers. A Chough was on the headland. At Petit Port over the high tide were 36 Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Sandwich Terns, 128 Oystercatchers and 5 Little Egrets.
At St Ouen's Pond were 2 Sedge Warblers and 2 Swifts, while up at Mont Matthieu were 13 Swifts, 4 Sand Martins, 10 House Martins and 25 Swallows.
In Grouville Bay were 330 Black-headed Gulls, 12 Mediterranean Gulls and 33 Sandwich Terns, and at La Rocque were a Redshank and a Whimbrel.
At St Aubin were 6 Redshanks and a Turnstones, also 2 distant Tern sp and seen from Belle Hougue on the North coast was a pod of 20+ Bottle-nosed Dolphins moving East.
A Grey Wagtail was back at Grands Vaux reservoir yesterday evening.
