01.03.2025   A fine drake Teal on the Scrape yesterday   MD


Some settled weather at last, mainly fine in a moderate east-northeast wind


A good selection of birds passing Corbiere this morning included 2 Red-throated Divers, 7 Common Scoters, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, 14 Brent Geese, 27 Razorbills, 6 Guillemots, 14 Cormorants, 60 Shags, 17 Kittiwakes, 9 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 Common Gulls, 9 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and 28 Curlews. 4 Purple Sandpipers were roosting there and 2 Peregrines were on their daily hunt. In Petit Port Bay were 50 Brent Geese, 4 Shelduck, a Grey Heron, 8 Mediterranean Gulls, a Yellow-legged Gull and 8 Little Egrets.  On St Ouen's Pond Scrape were 28 Teal, 4 Lapwings and a singing Cetti's Warbler.


Counts from La Sente involved a drake Pintail, 2 Shelduck, 42 Brent Geese, 80 Redshanks, a Cattle Egret, a Greenshank, 4 Snipe and A Raven, while at La Rocque were 34 Brent Geese, 30 Grey Plovers, 130 Dunlin, 250 Sanderlings and a Ringed Plover, also a Black Redstart. Seen from Webber's Lane were 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, 85 Grey Plovers and 35 Turnstones.  A Great Spotted Woodpecker was drumming by St Clement's Church.


At Crabbe were the male and ring-tailed Hen Harriers, 3 Kestrels, a Merlin, 2 Ravens and 3 Choughs. and at Plemont were 10 Razorbills and a Kestrel.


Elsewhere, 210 Brent Geese were at Beaumont Marsh, a Raven and 2 Choughs were at Grantez another Raven and 50 Starlings were at East Riding, a Song Thrush was in song by B&Q and a Grey Wagtail was in Vallee des Vaux.


Yesterday evening, 2 Woodcock were at Noirmont.
