05.10.2024 One of three Hobby that passed Noirmont through the morning MD
Another fine day but feeling cool in a fresh to strong southeast wind.
The wind strength limited the amount of migration past Noirmont this morning, but still some interesting birds were seen. Counts there included 2 Great White Egrets, a Little Egret, 3 Hobbies, a Grey Heron, 6 Brent Geese, 86 Swallows, 8 House Martins, 13 Skylarks, 18 Song Thrushes, 236 Meadow Pipits, 2 alba Wagtails, 65 Starlings, 70 Linnets, 4 Chaffinches, 3 Goldfinches, a Greenfinch, 2 Wheatears, a Stonechat, a Whitethroat, a Chiffchaff, a Peregrine, 2 Sparrowhawks, 4 Buzzards, 2 Ravens, 8 Jackdaws and c130 Crows. 3 Mediterranean Gulls were offshore.
Seen at Grouville Marsh from Dawn were 18 Song Thrushes, an overflying Skylark, 4 Chaffinches, 6 Meadow Pipits, 12 Cetti's Warblers, 3 Firecrests, 15 Robins, a Bullfinch, 2 Stonechats, 3 Teal, 6 Water Rails, a Hobby, 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Marsh Harriers, 6 Buzzards and 60 Jackdaws out of a roost. 2 Cattle Egrets were also at Grouville Marsh, another 28 Cattle Egrets were in Rue du Pont at Maufant and a further Cattle Egret was at St Ouen's Pond Scrape. In the Sandpits were 34 Little Grebes.
At Petit Port were 13 Mediterranean Gulls, 21 Curlews, 19 Swallows, 3 Turnstones, 2 Little Egrets and a Kingfisher and at the Gunsite in St Aubin's Bay were c 200 Brent Geese and 40 Black-headed Gulls. On the Scrape this afternoon were a Great White Egret, 4 Lapwings, a Greenshank and a Kingfisher
In or over Vallee des Vaux this afternoon were a Siskin, a Swallows, 2 Ravens, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, 75 Black-headed Gulls, 3 Grey Wagtails, 4 Firecrests, 8 Chiffchaffs, a Goldcrest, 15 Long-tailed Tits, 2 Short-toed Treecreepers, a Bullfinch and 2 Song Thrush.
Extras for yesterday, at Seymour, were 7 Little Egrets, 5 Grey Plovers, 40 Sanderlings, 9 Dunlin, 7 Turnstones and c 300 Brent Geese.
