07.03.2024 The First Wheatears of the spring arrived today, but neither were photographed so here is one from last spring RdC
A mild sunny day with a fresh easterly wind
Two Wheatears were the first spring arrivals today with one seen near to Le Braye and another at Les Landes.
Around St Ouen's Pond were the ringtail Hen Harrier, the Pink-footed Goose, 9 Wigeon, a Gadwall, 47 Teal, 16 Shoveler, 3 Pochard, a Little Grebe, 5 Snipe, 2 Oystercatcher, 9 Lapwing, 8 Marsh Harrier, 3 Chiffchaff and 100 Brent Geese and roosting at Petit Port were 17 Grey Plover, 5 Dunlin, 5 Turnstone and 25 Curlew.
Seen at La Sente were 2 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 2 Teal, 260 Brent Geese, 31 Redshank, 4 Greenshank, 22 Cattle Egret, 36 Little Egret, 6 Grey Heron, a Yellow-legged Gull, a Common Gull, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 2 Raven while the first spring White Wagtail was on the beach at Gorey.
At Queen's Valley were 8 Tufted Duck, 2 Siskin, 75 Black-headed Gull, 2 Common Gull and a Peregrine and at Grands Vaux were 7 Tufted Duck and a Chiffchaff.
Elsewhere, 20 Brent Geese were at Rozel, 50 Chaffinch at St Johns Manor, a Grey Wagtail was in Tabor Park, 80 Pied Wagtail were on St Michael's Cricket field, 23 Redwing, 70 Chaffinch and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull were in Talavera Lane, 8 Woodcock were in Vallee des Vaux and at Beaumont Marsh were 5 Shoveler and 3 Snipe.
