08.06.2024 A male Linnet at Corbiere this morning MD
A fair to cloudy day in a cool west-northwest wind
A quieter morning at Corbiere saw 10 Manx Shearwaters, 5 Balearic Shearwaters, 2 Guillemots, 2 Fulmars, 29 Gannets, 41 Shags, 8 Cormorants and 2 Kittiwakes pass offshore ( most Shearwaters were off Guernsey this morning with 300 Manx and 60 Balearic reported from Pleinmont ) and also seen were a Swift, 9 Swallows, a Greenfinch ( unusual here) a Peregrine, a Kestrel and a female Marsh Harrier with 4 Choughs on the headland.
In the early hours of this morning, 2 Manx Shearwaters and 6 Storm Petrels were trapped and released at Plemont with further Manx Shearwaters heard offshore, with single Barn Owls seen at Plemont and near St Ouen's Manor. This morning, along the northwest coast were 9 Razorbills, Puffins carrying food, 2 Peregrines, a Kestrel and 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls with a Blackcap still in song there too.
Back to yesterday, when the annual Skylark count at Jersey Airport was carried out and 110 Skylarks ( 22 singing males) were located, the second highest ever count there. Only 4 Meadow Pipits were found, a very low numbers for the site. In Waterworks Valley yesterday were singing Firecrest and Song Thrush, also Chiffchaffs feeding young.
