18.01.2024 A male Red-breasted Merganser in Petit Port Bay this morning MD
A cold (6c) but bright and sunny day in a fresh Northerly wind.
A decent, if chilly, day encouraged some good seabird passage past Corbiere, which included a Black-throated Diver, 3 Red-throated Divers, an out of season Puffin, 2,219 Razorbills, 139 Guillemots, 5 Brent Geese, 109 Gannets, 3 Fulmars, 10 Cormorants, 39 Shags, 273 Kittiwakes, 9 Mediterranean Gulls, 42 Great Black-backed Gulls, also 3 Bottle-nosed Dolphins and at the lower car park, a Black Redstart. In Petit Port Bay were a male Red-breasted Merganser, 31 Curlews, a Turnstone, 6 Brent Geese and the usual Oystercatchers.
At Beaumont Marsh were 500 Brent Geese, 8 Shovelers, 2 Teal, 8 Snipe, a Water Rail, a Cattle Egret, 2 Little Egrets, a Curlew, 2 Pied Wagtails, a Blackcap, a Firecrest and a Short-toed Treecreeper. and in a field on Rue des Hetres in St Peter were 50 Lapwings. On Mont Arthur was a Grey Wagtail.
Another 12 Lapwings were at La Sente along with 31 Redshanks, 4 Greenshanks, 31 Little Egrets, 14 Grey Herons, a Shoveler and 250 Brent Geese.
The Hen Harrier was seen again from the Scrape Hide at St Ouen's Pond.
