18.10.2024 A fine looking Dunnock at Noirmont! MD
A fair to cloudy day with a moderate westerly wind.
A steady trickle of migrants were passing Noirmont this morning. These included 26 Swallows, 20 Skylarks, 14 Song Thrushes, 11 Redwings, 35 mainly Pied Wagtails, 416 Meadow Pipits, a Grey Wagtail, 624 Woodpigeons, 257 Chaffinches, 355 Linnets, 94 Goldfinches, 112 Starlings, an arriving Wheatear, 14 Cormorants, 13 Black-headed Gulls, a Little Egret and a Grey Heron. Also present were 7 Stonechats, 5 Robins, 23 Magpies, 55 Crows, 2 Ravens, 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Marsh Harriers and 4 Buzzards.
Visible migration watching at Victoria Tower saw 6 Song Thrushes, 62 Chaffinches, a Brambling, 10 Goldfinches, a Skylark, 259 Woodpigeons, 10 Stock Doves and also a flock of 33 Magpies heading East.
In the Sandpits this morning were 6 Grey Herons, 22 Cormorants, 2 Little Egrets, 24 Little Grebes, a Great Crested Grebe, 76 Coot, 19 Tufted Ducks, 6 Pochard and 2 Stonechats. At Petit Port were 37 Curlews, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 210 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron and 2 Choughs. A further 9 Little Egrets, 90 Oystercatchers, 40 Meadow Pipits and 5 Rock Pipits were at Le Pulec.
At Beaumont Marsh were a Wheatear, 9 Meadow Pipits and a Kestrel and at the Gunsite were another Wheatear and 4 alba Wagtails. A Kingfisher was in St Brelade's Bay on the high tide
At Mont les Neaux were a Siskin, 14 Linnets, 15 Chaffinches, and 6 Song Thrushes, and at the Wetland Centre were 22 Shovelers and 14 Teal. A Water Rail and 2 Redwings were at Handois. The first report of a Jack Snipe for the Autumn was , unfortunately, one caught by a cat in Clos de Vivier, St Martin, on the 7th October
