19.10.2024 Red-billed Chough over Corbiere this morning MD
A fair day in a moderate west-northwest wind.
There was some early morning seabird passage past Corbiere, behind a clearing cold front. Passing were 20 Balearic Shearwaters, a Manx Shearwater, 8 Guillemots, 23 Razorbills, 2 Common Scoters, 18 Gannets, 19 Cormorants, 13 Shags, 25 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 Black-headed Gulls and 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Also seen were 34 Woodpigeons, 5 alba Wagtails, a Peregrine, 3 Stonechats and 8 Choughs.
Later morning, seen passing Noirmont were 18 Swallows, 200 Woodpigeons, 4 alba Wagtails, 42 Meadow Pipits, 6 Linnets, 15 Chaffinches and 16 Goldfinches. 10 Stonechats and 3 Dartford Warblers were on the ground, while raptors in the air included a Marsh Harrier, 3 Buzzards, one a pale phased bird, a Sparrowhawk and 2 Kestrels. 23 Redshanks were at St Aubin.
At a quiet Grouville Marsh from first light were a Great White Egret, 15 Chiffchaffs, 10 Blackcaps, 4 Goldcrests, 2 Firecrests, 8 Cetti's Warblers, 3 Stonechats, 12 Siskins, 4 Bullfinches, 8 Water Rails, and a Grey Wagtail. Flying over were 2 Song Thrushes, 2 Blackbirds, 2 alba Wagtails, and 3 Cattle Egrets and this afternoon, a Pintail was present. On Grouville Common were 4 Cirl Buntings, 40 Woodpigeons and 2 Choughs and 9 Grey Herons were at La Sente.
Seen around Le Hocq this morning were 2 Sandwich Terns, a Great Crested Grebe, 21 Little Egrets, 80 Oystercatchers, 32 Brent Geese and a Rock Pipit, with 30 Redshanks at Le Don le Quesne.
A Snipe in care following a window collision, was successfully released in Vallee des Vaux.
Late update: Also in Vallee des Vaux this afternoon were 4 Firecrests, 2 Goldcrests, 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Bullfinches, a Redwing, a Grey Wagtail, a Siskin, 8 Ravens and a pale Buzzard with 2 Barn Owls seen there this evening. Another Barn Owl was seen at Queen's Valley and a further one was at Mont Matthieu.
