20.10.2024 A Black-headed Gull in the shelter of the Sandpits this morning MD
A very poor day weatherwise, with cloudy conditions in a strong and gusty south to southwest wind, with periods of steady rain for good measure
In the shelter of the St Ouen's Bay Sandpits this morning were 33 Little Grebes, a Great Crested Grebe, 14 Pochard, 9 Tufted Ducks, 23 Cormorants, 18 Mediterranean Gulls, 10 Black-headed Gulls, 45 Great Black-backed Gulls, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Grey Wagtail, 7 Pied Wagtails, 9 Goldfinches, a Sparrowhawk, a Buzzard with food and 2 Choughs. Near the Cutty Sark were 42 Ringed Plovers and a Dunlin and 100+ Black-headed Gulls were on the Airport football pitch.
An hour's seawatch at Corbiere proved that little was moving there, with a Common Scoter, 3 Cormorants, a Grey Plover, 2 Curlews and 3 Mediterranean Gulls seen.
380 Brent Geese were at the Gunsite in St Aubin's Bay, a Kingfisher was at Bel Croute and a Grey Wagtail was at Sandybrook.
At Grands Vaux reservoir were 2 Grey Herons, a Grey Wagtail, 75 Black-headed Gulls, 5 Tufted Ducks and 13 Cormorants. At Handois were a Little Grebe and a Short-toed Treecreeper and in a garden in Vallee des Vaux were 2 Siskins, 6 Firecrests, 3 Goldcrests, 2 Chiffchaffs, 12 Redwings, 2 Bullfinches, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Short-toed Treecreeper, while seen flying over there were 50 Redwings, 15 Chaffinches and 11 Ravens.
