21.10.2024 Some of yesterday's Little Grebes in the Sandpits MD
A very poor day weather-wise with a warm front sitting over the Island , providing plenty of rain in a southwest wind.
A few hardy birds were on the wing at Noirmont despite everything. These included 7 Swallows, 2 Skylarks, 7 Song Thrushes, 15 Redwings, 2 Blackbirds, 16 Chaffinches, 7 Goldfinches, 148 Meadow Pipits, 7 Starlings and 22 Woodpigeons, with 3 Robins, a Firecrest and a Chiffchaff breaking cover and a local Kestrel still hunting. Offshore were a Little Egret, 3 Balearic Shearwaters, 6 Common Scoters, 8 Gannets and a Lesser Black-backed Gull.
At St Ouen's Pond were 2 Snipe, 14 Shovelers, 12 Teal, a Swallow, a Reed Bunting and 4 overflying Little Egrets. In a garden on Mont a la Brune were 2 Firecrests and a male Blackcap.
On the East of the Island, at La Sente were 26 Grey Herons and a Cattle Egret and a bumper 63 Cattle Egrets were at Le Catillon. In Grouville Bay were 330 Brent Geese. 15 Redwings flew over Vallee des Vaux early this morning.
Evening update: On Grouville Common were a Stonechat and a Raven and in Vallee des Vaux were a Firecrest and 8 Ravens overflying.
