22.03.2024 Little Egret at St Ouen's Pond MD
After a bright start to the day, the weather deteriorated to overcast with rain as a cold front passed through, clearing at 5 pm, but with colder air behind for tomorrow!
A selection of species seen at La Sente through the day included 50+ Sand Martins, a Swallow, a Little Ringed Plover, 2 Shelduck, 2 Shovelers, 38 Cattle Egrets, 5 Greenshanks, 27 Redshanks, a Snipe, a Curlew, a Common Gull, 4 Black-headed Gulls, a Wheatear, 76 Pied Wagtails and 2 White Wagtails, 2 Meadow Pipits and a flock of 30 Linnets flying over. At Seymour later on were 28 Grey Plovers, 23 Sanderlings, 12 Turnstones and 5 Ringed Plovers.
During the bright start to the day 9 Manx Shearwaters, 39 Razorbills, 22 Guillemots, 5 Fulmars, 17 Gannets, 9 Kittiwakes, 2 Mediterranean Gulls and 3 Common Gulls passed Corbiere with 2 Peregrines, 42 Crows and a Wheatear and 2 Purple Sandpipers also seen at the headland. In Petit Port Bay were 20 Curlews, 2 pairs of Shelduck, 15 Brent Geese, 7 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 3 Little Egrets, 12 Turnstones and 5 Ringed Plovers.
At St Ouen's Pond and the Scrape this morning were a ring-tailed Hen Harrier, 2 Shelduck, a White-fronted Goose, a Barnacle Goose, the male Pintail, 47 Teal 4 Wigeon, 28 Shovelers, 4 Tufted Duck, a Little Grebe, a Snipe, 2 Oystercatchers and a pair of Stonechat (behind the Scrape).
At Sorel Point were 6 Wheatears, 2 Song Thrushes and 32 Choughs and in Vallee des Vaux were 3 Siskins, 4 Bullfinches and 3 Blackcaps.
