23.12.2024 Curlews over Petit Port MD
Cloudy with a strong, but reducing north-west wind, ahead of a warm front from the West
At St Ouen's Pond this morning were a Bittern, 11 Brent Geese, 15 Snipe, a Grey Heron, 25 Teal, a Shoveler, 3 Coot and a Water Pipit, while on the Scrape later were 22 Lapwings, 2 Grey Herons, a Kingfisher and 3 Marsh Harriers. In the Sandpits were 4 Grey Herons, 6 Little Grebes, 5 Cormorants, 13 male Pochard and 6 Tufted Duck. At Sand's Slip in St Ouen's Bay were 21 Ringed Plovers, 11 Sanderlings and 15 Dunlin and at La Saline Slip were 30 Brent Geese.
Passing Corbiere in the first two hours of daylight were 6 Brent Geese, 4 Fulmars, 81 Gannets, 3 Razorbills, 4 Guillemots, 46 Shags, 8 Cormorants, 110 Kittiwakes, 5 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Common Gulls and 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, also a Grey Seal swimming west. In an unsheltered Petit Port Bay were 38 Brent Geese, a male Red-breasted Merganser, 38 Curlews, 2 Little Egrets and a Peregrine.
On the North coast, at Crabbe, were a female Hen Harrier, a Marsh Harrier, a Peregrine, a Kestrel, 400 Chaffinches, 30 Goldfinches, 50 Linnets, 7 Reed Buntings, 3 Redwings, 10 Song Thrushes and a Raven. At Plemont were a further 400 Chaffinches. At St John's Manor were 20 Redwings, 40 Chaffinches and a Marsh Harrier.
At La Sente were 193 Brent Geese, 32 Grey Herons, 12 Little Egrets, 88 Black-headed Gulls, a Mediterranean Gull and 2 Redshanks while at Fauvic were 8 Cattle Egrets and another 12 Cattle Egrets were at Cowley Farm
One extra for yesterday was a Brambling, still visiting a garden at Beauport.
