A fine day with a little high cloud at times, winds from the south and moderate
Migrants are starting to appear around the Island, albeit in only small numbers so far. Early on this morning at Grouville Marsh were a Green Sandpiper, a singing Willow Warbler, 25 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, 8 Cetti's Warblers, 2 Bullfinches, a singing Short-toed Treecreeper, a Water Rail, a Raven, 2 Sparrowhawks, 8 Buzzards, a pair of Marsh Harriers and 20 Jackdaws. At La Sente were 31 Brent Geese, 2 Shelduck, 2 Cattle Egrets, 19 Little Egrets, 3 Greenshanks, a Redshank, a Dunlin and 2 Ravens, while Rue des Charrieres, above St Catherine's Woods were a Redwing, a Blackcap, several Chiffchaffs and another Raven.
Some strong passage of seabirds past Corbiere from sunrise included 355 Manx Shearwaters, 143 Guillemots, 28 Razorbills, 11 Fulmars, 39 Gannets, 6 Common Scoters, 6 Cormorants, 55 Kittiwakes, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 3 Sandwich Terns. At least 4 Purple Sandpipers were roosting and a Peregrine flew over. Nothing was at Petit Port early on due to disturbance by a fisherman on the roosting rocks, although 7 Brent Geese arrived when the coast was clear.
A Ring-tailed Hen Harrier was seen at Noirmont this afternoon and earlier in the day, at the Scrape were another Green Sandpiper, a pair of Shelduck, 19 Teal, a Gadwall, a Wigeon, a pair of Shoveler, a Snipe, 3 Sand Martins and a male Sparrowhawk, also the Pink-footed Goose later in the day. A Wheatear was on the common, north of St Ouen's Pond.
A late report for yesterday was from Vallee des Vaux where 5 Siskins, 7 Bullfinches, a Blackcap and a Marsh Harrier were present.
